- TAMIL NADU
This is where it all began — Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu in 2002. Today, we work across the State in 17 districts. The five interventions along with the Village Uplift Programme have been implemented in the State.
The Self-Help Group & Microfinance Programme has been implemented successfully in the Union Territory of Puducherry with a large number of diverse enterprises, including handicrafts, mushrooming over the years.
We operate in two districts of Karnataka. The SHG & Microfinance Programme is operational in Haveri and Davangere Districts and the IT & Governance intervention has been implemented in the Haveri District.
We have also started a 3-year project in Nelamangala and Doddaballapur, in the outskirts of Bengaluru to empower women at the bottom of the pyramid.
Our operations commenced in January 2011 at Paud in Pune District. We are currently implementing our Village Uplift Programme in Pune district.
- MADHYA PRADESH
We have implemented four of our interventions in Madhya Pradesh. Apart from the Self-Help Group & Microfinance Programme, we also conduct medical camps for the rural poor. We work closely with MV Foundation to implement our education intervention at Nalcha Block. The Environment intervention in the State includes the successful implementation of the community drinking water project.
Working in Sundergarh District, we have initiated our Self-Help Group & Microfinance Programme in Odisha. Through the SHG & Microfinance Programme we have helped address the lack of alternate livelihood opportunities that has impeded the socio-economic conditions of many, including the vast majority of the tribal communities who continue to be severely marginalised in Sundergarh District.
Our operations began in Pali, Rajasthan in 2012.The initiatives in Rajasthan are in alignment with the Government of India’s ‘Mission Poorna Shakti’, being spearheaded under the Ministry’s National Mission for Empowerment of Women NMEW.
- WEST BENGAL
In March 2015 Hand in Hand India expanded its presence to West Bengal with the launch of the Village Uplift Programme (VUP) – an integrated village uplift program designed to bring about comprehensive and sustained development – at the Ichhapur-Nilgunj Panchayat in North 24 Parganas District, one of the highest populated districts of India. Through partnerships with local stakeholders, including the panchayat heads, villagers and other government and non-governmental organisations, developmental initiatives are implemented in the areas of skill building, job creation, education, healthcare, environment, and IT and governance.
Other South East Asian Countries
Hand in Hand Cambodia is an NGO that is being established to replicate the HiH job-creation interventions to help rural women. Adopting HiH India’s self-help group model, its mission is to create 50,000 jobs.
Hand in Hand Cambodia will help set-up family-based enterprises and microenterprises and work on creating value chains in agriculture products, especially rice. It will also work to establish a regional credit operator to provide affordable microcredit to rural women.
The microfinance industry in Myanmar is yet to evolve. The country still has a long way to go in terms of internal controls, quality manpower and governance. There exist a huge demand for financial inclusion, livelihood and capacity building of the local communities. Following a study in May 2012, we started working with Swanyee Development Foundation or SDF in 10 villages of SatSan Tract of Bogale Commune for implementing the self-help group model.
- Hand in Hand Sweden
Hand in Hand Sweden is a registered Swedish charity based in Stockholm. Hand in Hand Sweden works closely together with Hand in Hand International and the Hand in Hand group’s implementing organizations towards the common vision of reduce poverty through education and job creation.
Hand in Hand Sweden’s main objectives are fundraising and forming public opinion in favour of the Hand in Hand concept of job creation among the poor. In its marketing efforts, Hand in Hand Sweden focuses on partnerships with other development and aid organizations, small and large corporations, as well as fundraising campaigns targeted towards both private and business sectors.
- Hand in Hand International
Hand in Hand International is a member of the Hand in Hand Network, a global group of NGOs working to fight poverty in 10 countries and counting. Our goal is to create 10 million jobs in some of the world’s poorest communities.
- Hand in Hand Switzerland Association
Hand in Hand Switzerland Association was founded in 2013 by the senior management team of Hand in Hand India along with the support of former Indian Diplomat Mr Amitava Tripathi. Its main aim is to be a functional unit to promote the Hand in Hand India, Cambodia and Myanmar brand names globally and to raise funds.
