In Sri Lanka
Hand in Hand Lanka was formally registered in 2011 with the vision to alleviate poverty through job creation and integrated community development. The political unrest in the region impeded our activities but with the situation largely under control now, our senior management team visited Sri Lanka to further explore avenues of outreach and conduct scoping studies.
Sevalanka and Berendina have been identified as our initial partners. After a survey of potential geographies, two districts – Vavuniya and Mannar have been chosen to commence our activities. The second phase of our activities will cover Kilinochi, Mullaithivu and Jaffna.
Going forward, Hand in Hand Lanka will focus on creating an enabling environment to promote livelihoods, skill training, education, health and microfinance.
