Sakthi hesitates a lot before saying anything, which is quite unusual for a 20-year-old. Life has taught him lessons the hard way. He lost his father when he was in the 9th standard, which forced him to drop out of school. He started working as a construction labourer to support his family.
This was when Sakthi met one of his friends who told him about the transit schools run by Hand in Hand. The transit schools target children who have dropped out of school or not passed the standard ten board exams. In the transit schools, the children are given efficient coaching by qualified teachers, who assist them in completing their studies and encourage them to enrol in higher classes.
His desire to study was rekindled. He joined the transit school and he is now preparing for his 10th standard board exams with guidance from teachers. Shakthi’s aim is to become a Mechanical Engineer and to help his family come out of poverty.
