Saraswathi is in class IX in a government school close to Hand in Hand’s Residential Bridge Camp for girls. She has been with Hand in Hand for more than two years. Inspite of being out-of-school for more than three years, she shows joyful enthusiasm about school and dreams to become a teacher. Before Hand in Hand intervened, Saraswathy had dropped out of school because her parents could not afford to put her through school. She herded cattle for some time and then went to work in a brick kiln. She worked for INR 60 a day. Saraswathy’s mother Indirani is now a member of Hand in Hand’s self-help group.
