Aravamuthu participated in our organic training programme in Sathanoor Village in Thiruvannamalai District of Tamil Nadu. A fifty-six-year-old farmer, he grew paddy, banana, groundnut and green gram in his four acres of cultivable land. He was impressed by our training and was among the first to join the Organic Farmers’ Group formed in the village. He initially allocated only one acre for organic farming. The profits yielded from this reduced the cost of cultivation, and encouraged him to practice organic farming in all his acres. He has now started earning a profit of about INR 20,000 per yield per acre.
