To mark the World Day against Child Labour on 12 June, the CLEP (Child Labour Elimination Programme through Education) Pillar undertook a series of awareness programmes across Kancheepuram, Tiruppur and Vellore Districts. At Kancheepuram, children participated in a road-show to throw light on the issue. In Tiruppur, a mega rally, sticker and signature campaigns and a cultural road show were organised. A four-day cycle rally and cultural programme, covering all panchayats were conducted in Vellore District. Through its programmes, the CLEP Pillar also propagated the Right to Education Act among participants and the public.
The International Labour Organisation (ILO) launched the World Day Against Child Labour in 2002 to focus attention on the global extent of child labour and the action and efforts needed to eliminate it. Each year on 12 June, the World Day brings together governments, employers and workers organisations, civil society, as well as millions of people from around the world to highlight the plight of child labourers and what can be done to help them.
