Anaemia screening and cancer awareness sessions were organised for employees by the Health Pillar on 5 May 2012. The anaemia screening session was conducted primarily for all the women employees at Hand in Hand India, Kancheepuram. Cancer awareness programme was organised for health mobilisers and employees of the organisation. This was presented by Dr. Raja Sundaram, Director, Sundaram Cancer Centre.

A total of 207 Hand in Hand Staff (171 women and 36 men) were screened for anaemia. About 89% of them showed an improvement in haemoglobin count when compared to their condition the previous year. To spread awareness on the condition, booklets on anaemia were distributed.

Later in the day, during the awareness session on cancer, Dr. Sundaram emphasised the importance of early detection of cancer. An awareness programme on anaemia was also conducted for Residential Bridge School teachers on 7 May 2012. About 66 teachers participated in the programme.
