A two-day residential training programme on Environment Rights Protection Committees (ERPCs) was conducted at Mamalla Beach Resorts in Mamallapuram for volunteers from Coimbatore. Held on 29 and 30 June, the objective of the training programme was to sensitise volunteers on capacity building and motivate key stakeholders in protecting the environment and conserving natural resources. 32 volunteers from Coimbatore District and 15 staff members participated in the Programme.
Senior officials of the Solid Waste Management (SWM) team of the organisation spoke on key issues concerning environment protection and solid waste management. The ERPC volunteers were also taken on an exposure trip to the Mamallapuram SWM complex. As a group activity, members drafted an action plan for their respective villages for a period of one year. The programme also had a team-building session conducted by the Human Resources team.
The training programme was conducted under the third phase of Forum Syd’s ‘Sustainable Waste Practices’ Project which is being implemented in collaboration with Hand in Hand India in Coimbatore. The participants were from five project areas of this Programme. Forum Syd is a Swedish democracy and rights organisation.
